Learn to windsurf by combining Royal Yachting Association courses with Practice Sessions and Expeditions

Beginners can start with a Taster or RYA Level 1 Part 1

Taster

A taster session is a good way to find out how easy and fun windsurfing is before you go on an Introductory course
Start Windsurfing - RYA Level 1 Part 1

An Introductory Course will cover basic skills including using the sail to move along, how to be safe and what to do if you fall off your board. You will learn how to sail across the wind, turn the board around and return to the point you started from. Following this course you can attend Practice Sessions.
   

Practice Sessions Pre-requisite: RYA Level Part 1

During a Practice Session you can do a number of things. You can practice or complete skills learnt on the Level 1 Part 1 course, get back into windsurfing if you have not been on a board for a while or sail with a bigger sail and try to go a bit faster.


Start Windsurfing - RYA Level 1 Part 2

This course will start with a re-cap of the skills learnt on the Level 1 Part 1 course and then build on these skills to develop your ability to sail upwind and downwind in light winds. Following this course you can attend Practice Sessions to retain and improve on your skills.


Windsurfing Intermediate - RYA Level 2

This course will start with a re-cap of the skills learnt on the Level 1 course and then build on these basic skills, introducing beach starts and how to use a harness.
 
Windsurfing Expedition. Pre-requisite: RYA Level 2

Minimum age: 13 years

An opportunity to improve skills in a new and exciting environment.

This course will be residential with a programme of windsurfing on the sea.
Practice Sessions

During a Practice Session you can do a number of things. You can practice or complete skills learnt on your course, get back into windsurfing if you have not been on a board for a while or sail with a bigger sail and try to go a bit faster.

After this course you can continue to windsurf by attending Practice Sessions and the Windsurfing Expedition.



WINDSURFING INFORMATION


Instructors: RYA Qualified

1:6 ratio for windsurfing

Courses for: 10-13 year olds and 13-18 year olds. (Age by 31 August of the year of the course)

Each person has their own windsurfer, there is no need to share.

Everyone going afloat wears a buoyancy aid, helmet and a wetsuit.

You must be water confident and able to swim 50 metres.

The logbooks and certificates are included in the Introductory Course and the certificates are included in subsequent courses.

A packed lunch is the only extra that you will need to provide and you will need gym shoes/trainers to wear when on the water.
