The design, production and ultimate use of a raft is a primary activity for group work.
The instructor will coach basic skills such as knot tying to facilitate the manufacture of the raft, yet leave the group to create, first the model and then a raft from logs, barrels and rope.
Leadership within the group is a strong feature of this exercise as are the roles each member of the group takes on to achieve the task. The instructor will encourage the process helping the group to analyse their work.
